Nectar at Vanderbilt University
Nashville, Tennessee
The sweet smell of success. Recognizing a need on the world-renowned Vanderbilt University campus, the administration took the opportunity to renovate a 1,600-square-foot outdated retail space into an award-winning, modern health food store. Nectar, a unique, one-of-a-kind enterprise, provides organic options and encourages a healthier lifestyle among students. Based on the Japanese bento box concept, the designers created a unique layout that allows an intuitive flow of traffic. The space captures the natural elements of the store's products and maximizes the limited display space with color. Sustainable elements were incorporated into the space as well as simple and clean signage to reinforce the natural theme. The project's success continues to be underscored by annually increasing revenues. Out of 350 entries, this project won the doing a "Lot with Little Award" from the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD) in 2007.
