Gresham Smith Selected to Design Stormwater and Floodplain Improvements at the Jackson Pike Wastewater Treatment Plant in Columbus, Ohio

Gresham Smith is excited to announce that the firm has been selected to design stormwater and floodplain improvements at the Jackson Pike Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The City of Columbus, Ohio, has experienced challenges at the Jackson Pike WWTP due to ongoing site and regulatory constraints. The City has also experienced floodplain-related challenges with significant portions of the facility in the regulated floodplain. To meet the City’s objectives, Gresham Smith developed a phased master plan which characterized facility stormwater and floodplain management needs and now is moving toward designing holistic solutions that address the range of existing and future needs. Another key focus of the project work is to seek solutions that solve multiple needs to minimize construction, operational and regulatory complexities.

“Master planning is vital for allocating space for future development and the associated stormwater infrastructure, especially for facilities with land constraints,” said Senior Water + Environment Engineer Tom Dietrich, P.E., LEED AP. “These improvements will help the City to address both its historical stormwater management obligations as well those anticipated for future growth at the facility. Gresham Smith is proud to have the opportunity to partner with the City of Columbus on this important project.”

The design phase of this project is expected to begin this summer and conclude by the end of 2024.
