Birmingham, Ala.-- January 21, 2010 -- The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), architect-of-record Gresham, Smith and Partners and contractor Brasfield & Gorrie, are proud to announce the completion of UAB's Women & Infants Center and Hazelrig-Salter Radiation Oncology Center. The new Women & Infants Center combines the most advanced technology with a comfortable patient- and family-focused hotel-like setting. The Center offers general and high risk gynecology and obstetric services, as well as unparalleled services for gynecologic cancers, infertility and urogynecologic problems. The new state-of-the-art facility is home to Alabama's most comprehensive Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU) and together with the Continuing Care Nursery (CCN), houses the largest single-room special care nursery in the United States.

Improvements Relieve Overcrowding, End Two-Step Check-In Process, Provide Faster and More Efficient Baggage Screening
Reno, Nev. – February 10, 2010 – Gresham, Smith and Partners, a leading multi-disciplinary design and consulting firm to the built environment, announces the completion of the Airport Baggage Check-in project (ABC) at Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) for which the firm provided design services. Aimed at recapturing lobby space due to the use of lobby-based explosive detection systems (EDS) equipment and relieving overcrowding, GS&P worked with the airport to convert to a back-of-house automated in-line baggage system. Additionally, the ticketing lobby was renovated utilizing design elements which introduce improved technology to create a more open and user-friendly environment. An innovative approach to construction resulted in an overall savings of 16-18 months of construction time and approximately $7 million in project costs. [VIEW] |
