Located in Zhejiang Province, this magnificent Opera House will be an architectural icon on an engineered peninsula between Zhoushan Island and Mount Putuo. The building will be situated on the new waterfront in a public garden setting with design inspiration drawn from the sea. The landmark facility, with its freeform concrete shell covered in a metal filigree space frame, will be a prominent feature of the new cityscape when viewed from Mount Putuo Island. It will boast four venues: a 1,200-seat modern lyric theater, a 350-seat music hall, and two 100- and 60-seat theaters designed for viewing films. When completed in 2010, the new performance venue will house a small cafe, rehearsal and support spaces, a gift shop, administrative offices and below-grade parking.
