Reno, Nevada
The airport, like many in the post-9/11 world, was struggling to maintain adequate customer service in a ticket lobby filled with explosive detection system (EDS) equipment. RNO had previously installed lobby-based EDS units to comply with TSA checked baggage screening mandates, but the massive machines were consuming valuable real estate. GS&P was tasked with helping the airport recapture this much-needed space and ultimately convert from a lobby-based to a back-of-house automated in-line baggage system. GS&P designed a three-matrix EDS system to move the machines behind the ATO wall, and also designed significant updates to the lobby. As part of the renovations, GS&P helped the airport increase its level of service while also creating a look and feel reflective of the Reno-Tahoe area. This included converting traditional airline ticket counters to kiosks and introducing improved technology to create an environment that is more open and user-friendly.
